Noosa Alive Festival performances, all tickets $34
Since 1978, Noosa Arts Theatre has been running the National One-Act Playwriting Competition. With an $8,000 cash prize pool, including The Eleanor Nimmo Prize of $5,000 for Best Play, it attracts entries from playwrights throughout Australia, and many other countries. Scripts are judged anonymously by a professional panel of three industry experts. The three finalists are selected on the quality of the writing, not on subject matter; and the winning order is decided before the plays are presented in this Festival.
During the Festival, the audience is asked at each performance to vote for the ‘Nancy Cato Audience Choice Award’. Presentation of awards takes place after the final performance.
Noosa Arts Theatre is proud to offer this rather unique opportunity to aspiring and established playwrights and showcase the finalists as part of the NOOSA Alive! Festival.
The three finalists are (in no particular order):
SEEKING NIRVANA By Dave Wellings, Clifton, Queensland.
The Story of a new resident on aged care facility coming to terms with ageing and all the things that entails. When one of the residents is charged with an improbable burglary.... things start to brighten up!
THE BIG LAP by Bruce Olive, Buderim QLD
This is a strong family drama with some touches of dark humour as Anna deals with a drug dependent daughter and a missing grandchild.
UNFORGETTABLE By Cerise de Gelder, Melbourne VIC
Threads of ancestor's stories weave a fascinating tapestry about one of the famous portraits in the world.
